ART therapy courses for those living with a mental illness are being offered in Abbotsford.

Co-founders Diahann Lombardozzi and Maria Dimopoulos have both experienced mental illness and are certain that creating art can heal.

“We believe that creating art unites the mind, body and soul and the freedom to let it happen is very sacred and courageous,” Ms Lombardozzi said.

“We’re basically our own case studies. Making art gives purpose and stimulates endorphins.

“If people can’t express themselves in words, art is another tool for them to express themselves visually. Everyone can benefit from a process that is both productive and empowering.”

Ms Lombardozzi and Ms Dimopoulos are both artists and mental health advocates.

The pair will offer weekend workshops at the ASG Gallery, Level 1, 32 Mollison St, Abbotsford, from July 19.

Pieces from a recent workshop are showing in the gallery throughout June.
